Anyway, here’s something to add to your summer plans:

High Street Community Church will be showing the Invisible Children Documentary on Thursday, July 15th from 7-9pm. Anyone interested in learning more about this important Documentary and the movement behind it are encouraged to join them. Please let your churches know as well! Live the Dream

It is the desire of my heart that you as youth (15 and over) will really help lead this trip to the Dream Center come Aug. Which means I need you and I need to know ASAP which of you will be coming to Live the Dream at the LA DreamCenter.

If you know you are going let me know. If you are planning on coming I would like to start involving you in the planning and training. Our first meeting is Sunday the 24th at 6pm at the church! Hope to have you there!

Made Me Proud

Just want to tell you how proud I was of all of you who helped with Youth Sunday! You did a fantastic job and so many people told me so! Here are a few emails and facebook responses:

Judy Powers commented on your status:

"Wow, our kids showed that they listen and can work together and on top of that, they have talent! They all did so great today, I was very proud."

Dear Pastor Randy,

I just wanted to say how special service was today with the youth leading us. They have a message to give and they did a wonderful job. As adults we think we are beyond the mask hiding, but as the kids talk it really hit home how much we try to hide behind mast even as adults. Thank you so much for having the kids lead us today. It would be fun to have them do it maybe every other month or at least a couple times a year.

Love in Christ

Linda Means

Trinity Kay Is still totally proud of all her students who pulled off Youth Sunday!

You should be. They did such a great job! The artistic interpretation of the girl fighting everything that kept her from the 'true dance' was very moving. I wish I'd had a video camera.

You all did such a great job many people would like us to do it again!

Get Signed Up

Hey because we want to help conserve resources (trees, time, money) we are doing more and more online. If you are a student that attends one of our programs please have your parents sign you up on our Student Registration Form! Once your parents electronically sign you up, you are cleared to go on our trips and take part in all activities that are youth related. This form also lets me know some of your vital contact info in case I want to mail you a surprise note, or wish you a happy birthday or something fun like that. It also will insure that we have your parents contact info in case of an emergency or in case we want to email them. Our hope is that this will make Youth Events run that much smoother, and make less paperwork and head ache for you and your parents, and us :) So please have you Parents or Guardians fill this Student Registration Form out ASAP whether or not you are coming on a trip.

Thanks!

Trinity

DREAM CENTER

This summer Aug. 16th-22nd we have the amazing opportunity to go to the LA Dream Center!

The Need
Located in the heart of poverty, hopelessness, and violence, The Dream Center is surrounded by gang members who actively recruit young children into lives of violence and drugs. Poverty and addictions have sent many to live on the streets.

Each night in Los Angeles, over 11,000 people sleep on the sidewalks. Today in L.A., one of six families is living below the poverty line. The average family income for the poor has declined 24% since 1967.

These individuals are in desperate need of housing, food, and clothing. Community resources are stretched to the breaking point, and most shelters have six-month waiting lists.

The children are the most negatively affected. Nationally, 50% of Caucasian children and 80% of African-American children live in single-parent homes for at least part of their childhood. These children are five times more likely to live below the poverty line than children who live with both parents.

In L.A., the rate of poverty among children is almost 50% higher than the poverty rate among the city’s population as a whole. Most of these children will experience lives of gangs, drugs, crime and illicit sex.

Cities around the country and across the world mirror the situation in L.A. The world will soon have more than 300 cities with populations over one million. Cities will continue to see an increase in crime, drugs and poverty. The problems of the inner city will increasingly affect all Americans.
Dream Mission...
...are mission trips for you to come experience and learn the hands-on ministry provided by the Dream Center in downtown Los Angeles. You will have the opportunity to participate in the various programs and outreaches and become a vessel through which the Lord will reach the lost and brokenhearted.

I am so excited about this trip as a way for our youth to lead our church in an amazing missions trip. Here is what our week will look like:

Sunday
we will drive to the Dream Center and get settled.

Monday
Monday is a designated team day off. We will go to Disneyland.

Tuesday-Friday
8:00am-12:00pm Assignments for Ministry
12:45pm-5:00pm Assignments for Ministry

Each evening there will be either a service, ministry, or outreach in which you will participate.

Saturday
9:00am-12:00pm Adopt-A-Block

Sunday
9:00am-12:00pm Church Service
12:00pm-1:00pm Help with the Food Giveaway

*Afternoon and evening are free

New Habits in the New Year

Maybe you have made your new years resolutions, or maybe you have simply been resolute in your decision not to have a new years resolution this year. Whatever the case may be, I invite you to choose to develop a new habit this year. Not just any habit, but the habit of Daily Examen.

You may be thinking, "what in the world is that?" So glad you care let me share...

The Daily Examen

The Daily Examen is a great way to grow in self-understanding and in openness to Gods love and God's direction for your life. Specifically, the Examen helps us get in touch with our feelings and reactions to daily experience and identify what gives us joy and what brings us sorrow. Experiences that seem small and insignificant at the time take on greater meaning when we recognize they are part of the larger picture of what God is doing in and through us.

How to do it...

Either in a journal or on your computer, maybe even on a blog...

  • Talk to God and ask Him to help you identify the moment today for which you are most grateful. What made this the best point of your day?
  • Then ask God to help you identify the moment today for which you are least grateful. Recall that moment. What made it so difficult?
  • Then answer these questions: When did I feel most alive today? When did I most feel life draining out of me today?
  • Do the Daily Examen as consistently as possible. And as honestly as possible!
  • Then once a month or so look back over your entries and try to seek answers to these:
    • What do you notice? Any patterns? Themes?
    • What might these writings be telling you about how God is speaking to you?
    • What do these writings suggest about your identity? Your purpose? Your direction?

I am not suggesting this without having done it! It has become a gift, and so I want to share this gift with you! For some of you this will be a real challenge, for others it may come more naturally but I have seen God's faithfulness as I have chosen to take notice of it and I long for you all to see Him more clearly as well.

Give it a go and let me and the rest of us know how it goes.

If you choose to take on this challenge to add this habit, let me let me know so I can be praying with you and for you in this new year!

Transitions

You may have by now heard that there are some changes brewing in the Youth Ministry at Felton Bible Church. I just want to make sure we are all on the same page. I (Trinity Kay) have been in a 6 month application process following God's call to the missions field. At the end of November I went to Minnesota for a week long Readiness Event (Interview/Training) At the end of that week I was commissioned by ReachGlobal the mission's agency for the Evangelical Free Church of America. I was commissioned to be a full time long term missionary to Rome, Italy. So throughout the next year I will be training and raising financial support to leave for the missions field.

What this means for the Youth of Felton Bible Church is that there will be changes this year, but as I transition to the missionary life the Church will be transitioning to make sure the Youth are all well cared for.

I am not leaving because of anything here, I am leaving because it is what God is calling me to. I love our students and our Church leaving you all behind will be the hardest part of going. If you follow the links in this post, you will find a more detailed explanation of my calling, ReachGlobal, and a what is coming.

If you have any questions throughout this year, please let me know!

STRAW MAZE
. The labyrinth about 2 to 2.5 acre of straw maze well into its 6th. year of construction. Every year has different design with spirals, concentric circles, and arenas with multiple gates, corridors and hall ways. The story has it there will be TRAP DOORS coming soon which will push open and create a new opening to your path by the same token will be closing someone else's path. Walls by design are 7 feet tall which make almost impossible to see over, makes people frustrated to the point that they resort to climbing. We strongly suggest against that. Attendants are in trough the maze for your assistance therefore. PLEASE NO CLIMBING.

Home Again

Well, we made it back from Houseboats perhaps in better condition than we left. Funny how that works, we left as a group but returned as more of a family. We left in hopes of Becoming more like Christ, and I believe that the transformation has begun to take shape. So yep, we are back and in better shape! Perhaps not in better physical shape, though maybe. We did do some hiking and a lot of swimming and we enjoyed 3 meals a day of some pretty good food. (though all the snacking in between may have made up for any real exercise) Thankfully we were one of the boats with no injuries and we experienced no car problems. In fact we got to rent a pretty tight Chevy for the trip which worked out great. A majority of my pictures are posted on flickr already so enjoy!

Messy Night

We had our first ever Messy Night last Wed and it was crazy fun. Here are some of my Favorite pics from the different games, but feel free to check them all out in the slide show or on flicker.

Games played:
1. Ice Cream Sunday Drop - This is when it is fun to be me. I got to drop all the makings of an ice cream sunday into the students mouths from the roof. Oh what a mess, but so much sticky goodness.

2. Twisted up Twister - Just like Classic Twister except each color is represented by a food of the same color. ie. Yellow = Apple Sauce, Red = Tomato Sauce, Green = Relish, and Blue = ? well it looked like yummy blue frosting right Ronnie? But in reality it was Mayo dyed blue ;)

3. Oatmeal War with Green and Purple Oatmeal. Yum Yum.

4. Searching for Marbles in Bucket of cold slippery noodles. Which turned into one more thing we could throw at each other.

5. Cake Fight. Who doesn't love a classic.

6. Bobbin for Gummys in Gatorade

7. Flour and Water Fight

8. Shaving Cream Relay - which of course turned into cover each other in shaving cream.
9. Paint Mallo - using marshmallows covered in different colored ketchup as paint balls

10. Slippery Watermelon (like football on a soaped up tarp, with a greased up watermelon.)

11. Slip and Slide

Want some $$$

Sr. High you will have the opportunity to get some cold hard cash to go towards the cost of the Houseboat trip in Aug. All you have to do is sell some coffee. Capitola Coffee Roasters is working with us to supply excellent coffee beans for you to sell to everyone you know!

There's NO Excuse For Bad Coffee!!!

Fundraiser Information from Capitola Coffee Roasters
This is our way of giving back to the community by supporting the students whose families support us

That's right - get those students out there selling coffee. The good news is that they get to keep up to half the money for their trip to Lake Shasta . Yes, it's true! Yes, it's generous. And if you don't come in to Capitola Coffee Roasters, maybe you will now. We'd love to see you.
How does it work?
Easy - we agreed on a 2-week period of time for the fundraiser to begin and end. This is important to me so you sell as much as possible and I meet the target date. Each student has his/her own order form and as they sell coffee they fill it out and collect money. Once the 2 weeks is up Trinity collects the money and order forms and counts it. Make sure it's right, then bring the order forms and money to us.

We will then (and only then) roast and bag your coffee. It'll be bagged and separated by student so they can deliver to their customers. We will attach a copy of the original order form so they know who gets the coffee. It's that simple.

I (Trinity) will have your order forms the 1st of July! Happy $ making!!!

Worship

Sr. High this one is for you...

I know that many of you have had frustrations about the music at Youth Group. So we are going to change things up, because worshiping God through music is important and we want you to continue to have the opportunity to do so.

We will sing 4-5 songs that hopefully most of you already know but there will be words for you to look at in case you don't. John, Peter and Jim will all be there to lead us in worship. Some of the songs that we know are new to them, but they are going to come and give it their best and I really hope that you will too.

Why we Sing: Maybe some of you are wondering why it is that we take time to sing at youth group. We do it for many reasons but the most important is to praise and worship God corporately. It allows us to show our love for God in a different way than we normally would.

So come tomorrow at 6:30 ready to give God your best in a time of worship through music.
